Smart Lifts

A smart lift is an ordinary lift that has been given information and told what to do with it. The mechanical package is familiar — gearless traction, VVVF control, the same safety chain — but the way calls are gathered, grouped and dispatched is fundamentally different, and in a busy building the difference is measured in minutes saved every morning.

Destination dispatch is the core of it. Instead of pressing "up" and hoping, a passenger enters their floor at a landing terminal and is directed to a specific car. The controller groups passengers travelling to the same floors into the same trip, which cuts the number of intermediate stops each journey makes. In a multi-car group serving a busy office plaza, average waiting and travel times fall sharply during the morning peak.

Access control is handled by the same system. A card, fob or resident phone can be permitted to call only the floors it is entitled to reach, which is how apartment towers give each resident lobby access without giving them access to every other family's floor. Visitors are issued time-limited permissions from reception rather than a key that is never returned.

Every unit reports on itself. Door cycles, run counts, motor temperature, levelling accuracy and fault codes are logged and sent to our service desk, so a drifting door operator or a failing brake contact is identified as a maintenance job before it becomes a breakdown call. Touchless calling — by phone, gesture or card — was adopted for hygiene and has stayed because passengers simply prefer it.
