Structure Glass Elevators
Self-supporting glass shafts that turn vertical movement into an architectural feature.
Curved panoramic cabins that make the journey between floors part of the experience.
Overview
A capsule elevator is designed to be looked at as much as ridden in. The cabin is curved — typically half-round or five-sided — and glazed from waist height to ceiling, so passengers see the space around them open up as the car rises. In a hotel atrium or a banquet hall, it becomes the object guests photograph.
The visual work is done by the frame and the lighting rather than by applied decoration. Cabin frames are finished in mirror stainless steel, champagne gold or bronze, with a curved ceiling carrying concealed LED coves. Because the glazing is structural to the appearance, joint lines are minimised: fewer, larger curved panes give a cleaner result than several flat panes pretending to be a curve.
Capsule units are commonly installed as external or semi-external lifts on the face of a building, where the shaft becomes part of the elevation and the lift is visible from the street. That placement brings its own requirements — weather sealing at every joint, drainage at the pit, UV-stable interlayers in the glass and corrosion protection on every exposed fixing. We specify these as standard rather than as extras.
Underneath the glass it remains a serious piece of lifting equipment. The same gearless traction machines, guide rails, safety gear and overspeed governors used across our passenger range are fitted, and the same maintenance regime applies. A decorative lift that rides badly or stops unreliably fails at the one job it was bought to do.
